Yoshi has very good food, and the Asian influences are intermittent and easily avoided (though I don't know why anyone would). Remember, it started out as a basically French restaurant with light Asian influences, and has now become a little more proletarian. Prices aren't too high now, though what you mean by "moderate" may be another question. Another good one is Madam B, about three blocks north on Halsted. It, too, has some Asian influences, but by no stretch of the imagination is it an Asian restaurant. Same caveat on prices. Or walk four blocks up Halsted to Arco de Cuchilleros, a tapas restaurant that has had better reviews in this newsgroup than I would give it, but still not bad. Or friends tell me that Cornelia's, around the corner from Arco and just east of Halsted on Cornelia (also four blocks north), is enjoyable. I used to hate it and haven't been there for years, but I may be out of date. Bill Kelley, Chicago

But when I wrote my earlier recommendations, I didn't think the original poster was going to walk that far from Briar Street theater to get there, so I didn't mention Madam B. But I live barely 2 blocks from this restaurant and have been there many times. Good food (try the seared tuna) and very good service, and just enough background music (lots of Frank Sinatra) to know the artist but low enough not to intrude on conversations. >Or walk four blocks up Halsted to Arco de Cuchilleros, a tapas restaurant that > has had better reviews in this newsgroup than I would give it, but still not bad. > >Or friends tell me that Cornelia's, around the corner from Arco and just east > of Halsted on Cornelia (also four blocks north), is enjoyable. However, since a year or two ago when they changed their menu, it doesn't seem to be as good anymore. I can't put my finger on it exactly why, but it just feels that way. >Bill Kelley, Chicago > > > > >
