What was wrong with Giordano's? I LIKE them...

Try Suparrosa on Central near Montrose or on Harlem near Lawrence (phone book has exact locations). Excellent pizza and salad bar. Entrees are very good, too. The one on Harlem sometimes has crowds that can get a bit loud, though... depends on the day, I guess.

Personally, I can't stand the corn meal crust used by Gino's, and the way they put a whole big patty of sausage is sickening.

My favorite pizza place is Ranalli's on Lincoln Avenue just south of Armitage. They don't have a deep dish pizza but they have something they call a double decker pizza which is great. I also highly recommend their panzaratti. It is an incredible taste sensation.

I'll second the comment about Lou Malnati's not being all that great: I was at the Elk Grove restaurant a few years ago, and the pizza didn't knock me out, as some of the rave reviews led me to believe.

A point about Nancy's: a long time ago, they were all owned by one big happy family. About 10 years ago, a rift developed and some of the restaurants split off from each other, and there was a huge fight over who had the right to use the name "Nancy's." At one point, they found an incendiary device in the Des Plaines restaurant, allegedly planted there by one of the rival "Nancy's." I've no idea if this was ever resolved, or if all the restaurants are back in the fold: I just thought it was an interesting story. The pizza at Nancy's is good, though :-).

Giordano's and Edwardo's are okay, but I've found the quality to be extremely inconsistent between their stores. The only time I go to either is for lunch, and I'll get the "baby" sized stuffed pizzas.

I do enjoy Gino's East and Connie's; I especially like Connie's stuffed pizza.

As for where I go when I'm serious about having excellent pizza: I'm not telling. The places I like are too crowded as it is :-).

When I as an older teen, I would go to Gino's East at least twice a month but now I can hardly stomach their pizza. That thick patty of sausage and that corn meal crust is terrible. I find Connie's pizza to be way to salty for my taste.

Could you possibly mean Ranalli's on Lincoln Ave. just south of Armitage in the Lincoln Park Area? :-> I know, probably not, but I couldn't help but plug my favorite pizzeria even if it is overly crowded most of the time. I recommend the Double Decker Pizza as well as the Panzaratti ( your taste buds will thank you ).

Oh, by the way, they also have a beer list of over 100 different imported and domestic beers. ( if you like that stuff ) :->>
