Duke of Perth on Clerk just north of Diversey compares favorably (by my Brit friends) to what they were used to back home. I've also heard that the Earl of Loch Ness (Clark just south of Fullerton) is good, but I haven't tried it myself. Very good cod, reasonably priced, good bar, comfortable surroundings and peppy help.

I really like the tarter sauce they serve, it may even be homemade. The only thing about the Red Lion is that the service can be SLOW, and disorganized. The first time we went there for fish and chips I asked the waiter what type of fish they used, and after he checked with the cook, he told me catfish. I started chuckling as I thought he was making a joke, but he was serious. He said that is what he was told, it turned out to be cod. We later found out that the catfish mix up was due to the waiter and cook not having a common language. The Red Lion is a not bad bar, comfortable seating, lots of literary type events and there is a rumor that it is haunted. I am pretty sure the Red Lion has fish and chips as a regular menu item, though I have only had them there on a Friday, it is a little too early to call and ask if they serve them all the time. If you get a taste for them on a Tuesday, call and check before you go. Regards, Gary (whose favorite fish and chips remain Clancy's) Red Lion Pub 2446 N Lincoln Ave Chicago, IL 60614 773- 348-2695
