Dining in Chicago
==========KLABRIE, 28/07/95========== I will be in Chicago late next week and wondered if anyone had any dining suggestions. We'll be staying in the Near North area. Thanks! Albert's - small, intimate - food is excellent and priced very reasonably 52 W. Oak (I think) off of Dearborn. Geja's - West Armitage (around the 300 block) dark, romantic- fondue is their specialty There are scads more but these are a start. Enjoy and don't forget to go to Blue Chicago (either one- cover charge is good at both) on Clark. Great blues, lots of local color and great t-shirts.

Except that I and my family felt that Tuttaposta (I think that's the right spelling) was overpriced and overrated. Most of these are Richard Melman restaurants (Lettuce Entertain You chain) and I have never had a bad meal or experience in one of his places. My kids are crazy about his restaurants too, when they were little, and now that they are older. Everyone should eat at the Berghof, a Chicago tradition in the Loop. They have great food, fast service, and excellent prices. Never had a bad meal there, and I have eaten there perhaps a hundred times. Not bad for an out-of-towner. Howard Slenk [email removed] The best part of Chicago is it's fabulous restaurants. What prices for a big city. Unbelieveable.
I'll add to Howard's EXCELLENT list one more. There is a strip of Greek restaurants along SOUTH Halsted St from about Madison (0 North) to Van Buren St. (400 South). Most are commercial qual places. However, try Santorini for excellent fish and seafood. It's sig. different from the other places along that 4 blk strip. Info: Halsted is 1 mile west of Michigan Avenue. Chicago has 8 blks to the mile so Blue Mesa is 3 miles north and 1 mile west of the zero point at State and Madison - in the Loop. rich markwart [email removed] In [email removed] (Howard Slenk) writes: > > > >: Here are some of my fav's off the top of my head: >: (I don't have exact addresses for most of these, but you could easily look them >: up when you get here) > >: Hat Dance (Ontario St?)- upscale mexican >: Topolobompo (450 N Clark)- upscale mexican >: Totopusto (N Franklin St.)-meditaranian >: Gypsy (E Ohio ?) -meditaranian >: Blue Mesa (about 2500 N Halsted)- Southwestern >: Cafe BaBaReBa (about 3000 N Halsted)- spanish tapas >: Carlucci (about 3000 N Halsted) -Italian >: Leonas (Sheffield and Belmont) -casual Italian > >

What prices for a >big city. Unbelieveable. I just had a overnighter in Naperville(suburb of Chicago) and we had a pizza at a resturant called Bonnuci(not sure on spelling). It was a thin crust pizza and very good(not your pizza hut pizza), also orderd some portabella mushrooms, they were good. They also had on the menu pasta and fish all looked very good. This restaurnant is on Naperville road right off the exit down the road from the Holiday Inn in a strip mall. Give it try. Also if any on else has tried it would be interested in knowing what you thought of it. [email removed]
The restaurant in question is Bacino's and everything said about it is true -- it's great for pizza and Italian entrees. It is on Naperville Road in a shopping center. There is also one in Lincoln Park (Chicago), I believe.
