We like Orbit on Milwaukee Avenue, south of Irving Park Road. Andrej Grill on Western Avenue just below Division (south of Wicker Park/Bucktown) got good reviews but privately, I've been told to avoid it.

We went to Pierogi Inn at Milwaukee & Lawrence based on its entry in the Entertainment book and liked it a lot ...

: 4) Weird, funky, relatively unique: Argentinian, Basque, Eastern : European, etc. The kind of stuff you'll only find a big city.

Mama Desta's Red Sea Ethiopean, on Clark Street just above Belmont next to the famous Dunkin' Donuts.

Wouldn't touch Printer's Row with a 10 foot pole - their executive chef is a joke. Ambria, on the other hand, I couldn't recommend more.

For lunch, Uno's or Due's is always fun. Shaw's Crab House is pretty Ad Agency filled, but the food was good, and the service was great. Always dig the Ritz Carlton's dining room. Yoshi's Cafe is also a treat...

And if all else fails, there's always Gold Coast Dogs...

I agree about Printers Row, too hyped up...Zinfandels on Ontario?, maybe it
was Grand, was interesting. The Chicago Chop House for prime rib, fantastic,
Shaws is good, so is the Cape Cod room. The Old Carolina Crab House on North
Pier is good. Gejas if you like fondue and funk. Noodle Noodle for el cheapo
Chinese/Japanese. (tend to kind of blend together.) There is a really good
Thai place in Oakbrook, can't think of the name right now. Walker brothers
for breakfast, Wilmette the original, there's one in Wheeling, and a few
 other places.
