Bobak's Restaurant in Burr Ridge

barb G.is a battle against entropy. Why bother?Feb 15, 2004
My sis and BIL invited me and .max to join them for dinner at Bobak's restaurant, in Burr Ridge.

WOW.
The place is huge. There was a wait list for a table, but not too long, about 5 minutes.

Waitstaff will ask you for your drink request and soups are usually offered first. beer and wine available.

The buffet area is big. Salads on one side, hot food on the other. All kinds of wonderful Polish treats; barley sausage (kiszka), fresh Polish sausage, breaded Polish-style pork cutlets, bigos (yummy simmered kraut), meat pierogi, "finger" dumplings (kopytka), potato pancakes, chicken, etc., etc.. Carved meat station had ham and smoked butt, that was so tender it melted in your mouth. "U-carve-it"!! I was surprised to find NO stuffed cabbage on Saturday. No idea if they rotate the items around throughout the week or not. about a half dozen pastries to pick from as well.

Having been to other Polish buffet restaurants (Red Apple, Lone Tree, Jolly Inn), I have to say this stuff was damned good, better than the other 3 in many respects. None of the food has a chance to sit around long. Not greasy, which is sometimes a problem at the other places, especially with the potato pancakes. Most stuff seasoned nicely, thankfully no RED heat lamps to impair the visuals. (GAD. who ever came up with THOSE? makes all the food look like hell...)

Right in the same building is the grocery store!
we wandered through and picked up some yummy european choccys, cookies, and I got some bobaks homemade soups (mushroom and a barley "krupnik")

Take I-55 to exit 276A south to Burr Ridge Pkway.
well worth the trip!

Have you tried the place at 17th and Cermak, Sawa's? Though I haven't been to Bobak's, Sawa's is near me and pretty good with a similar variety. They were supposed to close and a Walgreens go up, but then they were open again and remodled.

A couple of times I've been there, they've had little hot dogs or sausages wrapped in pork tenderloin, wrapped in bacon. That seemed like overkill.

Actually, vegetarians can do quite well at Bobak's. There are mucho vegetable selections and usually a few meat-free hot items, like the potato pancakes.

Desserts are pretty good, too - especially the chocolate rum balls.

The Naperville Bobak's is scheduled to open in March, 2004, and the Orland Park location is "coming soon".

If you want a reasonably priced, gut-buster meal of pretty darned good but not very creative food, Bobak's is the place to go.
