Kenji, They did have a booming business, but there were other factors. Larry is reopening at 3038 W. Irving (former spot of "Martini's" Restaurant). He had had problems with the landlord at the 1465 W. Irving location for years, and finally tired of it, and declined to exercise the option for a five year extension on his lease. For the time-being, his other restaurant, NN Spice Islands is open at 3314 W. Foster. I spent the summer helping him get it open and managed it for a few weeks. The concept's a little different than the Smokehouse-- Asian and Carribean food, focusing on stick barbecue, but you'll find some Smokehouse favorites there, like the pancit noodles, the jerked chicken (available every night-- at the Smokehouse it was the Tuesday special-- and the key lime pie. If you miss the Smokehouse's jambalaya, they have a paella that's pretty similar (though not spicy). I'll be helping him get the Smokehouse reopened. They're building it out in the back to make room for the smoker and a prep area. It should be just a few weeks. Brian Peterlinz
