Oh. And here I'd been following this thread in hopes of finding that there was a place that had better than "edible, especially if you're hungry" in a buffet setting.

Actually, I would have said that China Boat, on Roosevelt in Glen Ellyn (from Trader Joe's, walk east about 100 feet), had head and shoulders the best - not the largest - buffet, but they only do weekday lunch, and the last couple times I was there it seemed to be under new management. The buffet is still better than most, but I'm very much afraid it may be headed back towards the sea of mediocrity that most buffets inhabit... unless they're worse than that. I need to get back for another reading soon...

Beijing, about a mile west of China Boat, used to have a pretty good lunch buffet, but they seem to have stopped that some years ago.

Come to think of it, Imperial Garden may have been better earlier in its life. I know that towards the end, I came to feel it was a tossup between IG and Diamond Buffet (another one on Roosevelt in Glen Ellyn, this time on the south side. next to Blockbusters), and I don't feel Diamond has much going for it other than a wide selection of dishes.

I'm with you on that. I'd rather eat Thai, but it's not convenient just now, or sushi, but that gets too expensive. This discussion has been useful, though - Ogden is a bit out of the way (for mere buffet food, that is), but I'm getting tired of Diamond. Of course, there are always the non-buffet options.
