Two favorites that I can list: Mama's Fish House in Paia and
David Paul's Lahain Grill in Lahaina. Bot are pricey, but well worth the cost.

It's been years and I can't remember restaurants, but there is one thing I do remember - DO NOT TAKE THE EVENING DINNER CRUISE!!! If you want to cruise out to see the sunset, the fine, but DO NOT PLAN ON EATING ON THE BOAT. Clear enough? The cruise at sunset is beautiful, but the dinner is the rip off of your lifetime. Basically, everything in the tourist scene is somewhat that way, but many things are really fun - like the sunset cruise, but the dinner truly SUCKS.

Carelli's in Kihei, Maui - NOT TO BE MISSED!
Family owned, Italian food but not stodgy
(I think they're all from Queens cuz dey tawk like dat) Linen service, candelight, fantastic menu. Not cheap, but well worth it for a special romantic evening. Have a blast - I'm jealous!

My husband and I had dinner at the Grand Wailea last summer - it was a romantic setting (small, quiet, open air dining room, band playing soft music, great view of the sunset). It was a bit pricey, but I'd recommend it, anyway. The food was very good and the service was excellent.

Have fun!

Two places that I have been to myself and have received good responses on when I've recommended them to friends:

1) Chez Paul in Olowalu (sp?). Owned and operated by a Paris-trained chef who vacationed in Maui in the mid-70s, fell in love with the place, and decided to move there and set up shop. The setting itself is not particularly impressive, but the food and the ambience are magnificent. Olowalu is more a settlement than a town; it's a couple of buildings on the side of the road a few miles southeast of Lahaina. Some friends just came back from their honeymoon in June and raved about Chez Paul's. Two seatings nightly at 6:30 and 8:30, continental cuisine (as might be expected).

2) The Veranda at Kapalua Country Club (several miles north of Lahaina). This is something of a tourist spot (meaning the food, while good, is overpriced), but the setting is spectacular. Be sure to ask for sunset dinner reservations. The sun setting between Molokai and Lanai is a scene not to be missed if you are anywhere in the area.

Try Roy Yamaguchi's Kahana Grill. Great food, open kitchen, and we told the hostess that we were on our honeymoon, and they decorate dour table with flowers and confetti and gave us a free dessert.

TRY THE SEARED AHI!!!!! It was a very memorable evening, and it was a good thing that we went on the last night of our trip, or else we never would have eaten anywhere else. Varied menu (changes daily with some dishes on every day) and reasobable prices (especially for Hawaii).
