Street Cafe (in the City Market); Spankey's (on the riverfront) 606 is nastalgic, i.e., lava lamps, Elvis and Marilyn Monroe paraphernalia, etc. Spankey's is rustic, good food. We went there on our honeymoon in November and ate at these places; one place we didn't try but it was highly recommended was the Crystal Palace (I believe that's the correct name). Also, if you want good country, Southern cooking go to Mrs. Wilkes' Boarding House - the food is not that different from any Southern grandma's cooking but if you're not from the South, it's a real treat. However, it's a charming experience just to visit the place, lots of history and you will probably get to meet Mrs. Wilkes - she is in her 80's but still works at the restaurant. We got to meet her and she let us have our picture made with her and also, signed a copy of her cookbook for me. She a really sweet lady. You should not visit Savannah without visiting Mrs. Wilkes' Boarding House. Have fun! I've got to endorse the Old Pink House and the Pirates' House, but my favorite place to spend time is at Hard Hearted Hannah's, a jazz club which offers the menus from multiple good restaurants surrounding it. You can order from any of them, and have the food served to you in Hannah's while you're listening. There are a number of really excellent restaurants within two blocks of Hannah's - just wander around. From X Sat May 28 11:22:02 EDT 1994 Article: 1536 of alt.restaurants

Liz Terry is one of the finest chefs on the East Coast. I have eaten there many times, at the food has been uniformly outstanding. The ambience is very nice (restored ante-bellum style house), and the wine list is very good too. From X Fri Apr 29 10:26:16 EDT 1994 Article: 8414 of rec.food.restaurants
The famous Pirates House was good everytime although we were last there in 1990, so can't say personally if it still is, but Travel Channel did a piece on Savannah recently and reccomended it. From X Sun Sep 25 10:42:09 EDT 1994 Article: 10621 of rec.food.restaurants
