I just returned from a trip to Savannah, GA and thought I'd share this bit of info in case any of you might want to check out the following restaurants. We ate dinner at a place called the Fisherman's Wharf which was on the river front at River Street. The food was good, (at least we thought so) waitress very friendly and entrees not too pricey. We intended eating lunch at Mrs. Wilkes boarding House as it was recommended by several people. However, it was closed when we got there which was around 11.00 a.m. Anyway, we decided to try a place called Nita's, which was recommended by the local newspaper. This is a very small place located on 140, Abercorn Street, directly opposite the Colonial Park Cemetery (on the Northern Side). It is a very "homey", no-frills place, but frequented by tourists and locals (she has postcards from her customers on all her walls). Prices are quite reasonable and the food is good (quite Southern). At the end of our meal, at our request, Nita, (I think her name is Jaunita) who cooks all the dishes herself and has a very bubbly personality, came from the kitchen to pose for a photo with us. Hope this info might be useful to anyone thinking of taking a trip to Savannah, GA. Melroy From [email removed] Sat Jul 1 12:36:31 EDT 1995 Article: 17252 of rec.food.restaurants
