The Buckhead Diner and the Atlanta Fish Market (long walk) are quite good too, though in a very different way. I've also heard the Japanese restaurant in the Hotel Nico is outstanding.

Dante's Hatch is very close and somewhat unusual. The place looks like a haunted mansion from the outside, but inside you'll find a pretty nice atmosphere, including live jazz music for dinner, a very large replica of a pirate ship, and live crocodiles (yes, that's right!) The menu is mostly fondue and the prices are mid range. They also have a pretty decent wine selection. It's definitely unique and worth checking out.
edward.I've gotta agree with Edward. Dante's is one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta. To sit in the "jazz room" is an extra $10, though. Just so you don't get any surprises! One of my other favorites is Cafe TuTu Tango. Everything is served in appetizer portions so you can have a little bit of this and a little bit of that. And they serve everything from alligator to pizza. They have tarot card readers, live performers, and artists painting on site. And as far as splurging for the cab-- don't worry! It's been my experience that they have a car that'll take you anywhere you want. A friend of mine stayed there for business and we took a complementary limo down into Buckhead! Have fun.
