Le Totem - at Palais de Chaillot - Musee de L'homme 17, Place du Trocadero, 75116 Paris. tel (1) 47 27 74 11. Average to good food. Overlooks Trocadero with a great view of the tower. Patio tables in summertime are great, but you could specifically reques a table with the view. _____ Alexander M. Milstein, M.D.

It'll cost an arm and a leg, but IMHO the most romantic restaurant in Paris is Jules Verne. What can be more beautiful than all of Paris sparkling beneath you, seen from the Eiffel Tower. And of course the food is delicious and beautifully presented. Don't think of this as one more tourist restaurant. The Parisians also go there for special occasions. A second choice, also expensive (it's almost impossible to find a reasonably priced restaurant in Paris that's not ethnic) is L'Ambroisie. Happy Anniversary & Bon Appetit!

As I. wrote in my response to , all those restaurants, located at top of the famous landmark buildings, share the same feature. Jules Verne, the Top of the HUb, Marriott on 4th in SFO, The reastaurants at top of Seattle Needle, at top of Ostankino Tower in Moscow, all share mediocre food, average service at remarkable prices. The only exception I could offer off the top of my head would be the Bay Tower Room in Boston. BTW, there are two restaurants on the Eiffel tower, the other one is about the same, but less frills and somewhat cheaper. Great wiew from the tower itself, BTW. Prepare to fork over for the use of the elevator (if you eat at the restaurant, it's "free")

I stand by the Le Totem. Great food, great service, great view, _IF SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED IN ADVANCE_, no elevators or hype.

Happy anniversary!

I have dined at many of the "Finest" restaurants in Paris. My most romantic experiences were at the Restaurant Grande Cascade located in the park Bois du Boulange? (not sure of the spelling, but the restaurant is listed in the Michelin Red Guide. We dined in a jewel box of a glass conservatory, and the thing that impressed me the most was that we were truly treated with respect.

Many other places in Paris were courteous, but without warmth, Grande Cascade hits the top of my list for their courtesy, alone. Other suggestions: Jacques Cagna -- charming, intimate romantic dining room, with wonderful cuisine. Ledoyen -- located in the park right off the Champs Elysee, the restaurant on the upper level is beautifully decorated, magnificent floral displays, wonderful food, and attentive service.

If you have any specific questions about individual restaurants in Paris or other areas of France, I may be able to relay some additional first hand information.
