See it really pays to read this newsgroup--to find the great restaurants.

I live in Boston but spend a few weeks each winter in Palm Beach, Florida.

There are a lot of really fine restaurants in Palm Beach, but someone in this newsgroup recommended I head south 30 miles to Pompano Beach for Cafe Maxx.

I did this on a Sunday afternoon, taking along the coast not realizing that all the draw bridges would be up steadily for boaters. So the 30 mile ride took two hours.

It was worth it.

Cafe Maxx is one of the very best restaurants in the country I have visited. I would compare it to the very best of Boston such as Biba, Olives, Salamander, Providence, etc.

A somewhat eclectic menu with a very very good wine list.

Outstanding waitstaff...the wine was on the table in 30 seconds and poured into fine crystal glasses.

A party of six we were, so we tried a number of entrees and a few appetizers. The highlight was a delicious rack of lamb which cut like butter . Everything was a hit.

Nice decor with the meats on display in a glass case near the semi- open kitchen.

An interesting touch: bottles of Scope mouthwash in restrooms. I've never seen this before, but it makes sense...particularly after a business lunch I suppose.

I've hit most of the best restaurants in Palm Beach over the past 5 years but I must say, none have compared to Cafe Maxx for the interesting menu, nice ambience and outstanding service. This is not a bargain restaurant with most entrees around $ 20 but definitely worth it.
