There's a seafood place out in the bay, the Santa Maria I think, you can miss it since it's right next to the bridge to Anastasia Island; it's OK, nothing to write home about. There used to be a rather pricey place called the Raintree further north of downtown that was pretty good. There are plenty of places on the Island, don't know about the quality though. Also, there's a French Bakery down and across from the Spanish Hospital - excellent pastries - very expensive and they go fast so get there early.

The last time I was there (9 years ago) it was EXCELLENT. The fishing boats pull up to the back of the restaurant and unload their catches of the day. I consider myself picky about seafood (I come from New England, so I have sampled some of the best) and this place was really good. The prices were moderate, too. I know they are still there because I have seen their listings in travel books of the St. Augustine area.
If you find yourself in Daytona, Aunt Catfish's in Port Orange at A1A and Halifax Ave. on the Halifax river is an outstanding choice for seafood. I go to Bike Week each year and whenever Iask a local whrer to go for seafood they say "Aunt Catfish's" first. Be sure to try the cheese grits in the hot food bar.
Good luck,
Tom
