Gotta, Gotta, Gotta have the stone crab claws at Joe's Stone Crab (2nd & Ocean?, Miami Beach). Any of the funky restaurants along Ocean between 5th and 14th are a blast.

While Joe's Stone Crab started the stone crab claw phenomenon it is way overpriced. The last time I was there it was $21.00 for 5 claws and that was February 1990, so I can't tell how much more unreasonable they are now.

The stone crab claws come from the Florida Keys and it is about $10.00 for 8 claws. Take a ride to paradise (Key Largo or Islamorada) and enjoy the real thing for much less financial damage.

Mark's Place in North Miami Beach. 29 for food in Zagat (out of 30) and it deserves it.

: Also, while I haven't encountered it (when I ate at Joe's it was just : before the fresh stone crabs came in so it wasn't busy), apparently the : maitre'd is the sort who doesn't seat you unless you grease his palm (ie : pay him for a table). Even John Mariani, the Prodigy restaurant writer who : loves the food there, doesn't recommend them anymore because of this.

Try Garcia's on NW North River Drive. Fish market/rest combination. Best (safer) to go for lunch and sit outside by the river. They close at 7 pm anyway.
