You left out that barbecue place that's downtown. THAT was a delicious restaurant. Give directions. Please? Here is what we tried (or tried to try!) For lunch the first day we went to Shabeen. They told us that they didn't serve lunch, but that we could have jerk chicken at the bar. We decided against it, and proceeded to Joe's Stove Crab. They were closed (we later saw that they were supposed to open 10/15 which was yesterday). By then we were kind of cranky and hungry, so we called our next stop, Tap Tap and determined that they were open and that they served lunch. We had a good meal there with unusual food. The coconut shrimp was particularly nice. For dinner we went back to Shabeen, but this time we realized that they didn't serve any meals. They had stopped being a restaurant about 6 months ago, and are now just a bar. So, we proceeded to Lario's where we had a nice meal. The place was pretty crowded, but we didn't have too long a wait. The food was good although the selection was limited. Friday we were in the hands of our cuban friend. He took us to a "burger joint" in Little Havana called "El Rey del Fritas". A frita, in case you don't know, is a sort of burger which has a tomatoey sauce, and shoestring potatoes in the burger. We also got a to try guarapo (sugar cane syrup) and a mamey shake. Very nice. For dinner we were back in Little Havana at a place called "La Casona". They had a great selection, and the food was excellent. Saturday was pouring, and in the afternoon we made it over to Coconut Grove and had Floridian tapas at a place in CocoWalk whose name escapes me at the moment. Saturday night we had an awesome meal at Mark's Place. We came back to N.Y. loaded down with tropical fruits (guava, sour orange, key limes, carambola, papaya, etc.) All in all, a wonder culinary weekend. I put on about 2 pounds which was the only bad part. See you. /C [email removed]
