OK, the so the place is called Fisherman's Wharf and it's on the beach and they've got all sorts of nets and stuff hangin' from the ceiling. But their ad in the paper and the message on the menu said they had been voted the best BBQ ribs in Florida. So I ordered 'em... What I got were par-boiled and then grilled baby back ribs with Heinz barbecue sauce poured over them. At $16.95 for the dinner it was a choice of eating the bread basket or eating the ribs. I was hungry so I ate the ribs. I asked the waitress who voted for these ribs and she said she didn't know but would ask the manager. The manager said that he was new to the job but he thought there were some trophies laying around. I think they were bowling trophies. The bartender said that there was a big restaurant competition several years ago and they had won first place. He mentioned that they even beat out Tony Roma's. I gagged. So, as warning to those of you who travel to sunny South Florida in search of ribs - avoid Fisherman's Wharf in Pompano Beach, unless you want dolphin!

Best ribs in Florida, NOT!

No, the best ribs in Florida, so far, are from a little rib joint in Greenacres called Ragin' Reds. Although they par-boil them first, they do smoke them for several hours and then finish them on the grill. As far as restaurant ribs go, they are the best. As far as competition ribs go... well they get 5 points just for showing up.NNTP-Posting-Date: Sun, 18 Jun 2000 14:37:08 MDT Xref: usenet.INS.CWRU.Edu alt.food.barbecue:23547 On Sun, 18 Jun 2000 06:42:19 -0400, Richard Ginsburg Someone wrote: >OK, the so the place is called Fisherman's Wharf and it's on the beach >and they've got all sorts of nets and stuff hangin' from the ceiling. >But their ad in the paper and the message on the menu said they had been >voted the best BBQ ribs in Florida. Harry who had the best soft shelled crabs ever in some hole-in-the-wall no name place somewhere South of Haines City [which is not really a city IMO]. Got there by way of a conversation with a chap who was stacking veg at the local Safeway.
