Although we haven't lived in the area for ~15 years, I suspect the place you are talking about is Abbotts' in Noank. As I recall, it had very good lobster, clams, and chowder, but I remember it was very informal--you eat at plastic-covered outdoor picnic tables or take out for eating at home. There were a few seafood restaurants in downtown Mystic including the Flood Tide. The Seaport Inn on the outskirts of "Mystic Seaport" was wonderful, but I'm not sure about prices. There's also the "Steak Loft" in the Old Mystic Village shopping center which used to be very good, but when we were visiting a few years ago we found the prices high and the food and service VERY lacking. One of our favorite places was on Rte 1 just east of Westerly, the Shelter Harbor Inn, but we haven't been there in ~10 yrs. so I can't vouch for it now.

Let us all know if you find a "keeper". We do go back to visit occasionally, and it's nice to know what's worth the trip!

The place you refer to is called Abbotts Lobster in the Rough, and it is in Noank, right on the water. Very inexpensive, order your seafood (clams, mussels, chowder, lobster from 1lb-enormous) at the window, they call your number, take your tray out to a picnic table, enjoy your feast, watch out for seagulls. Beware, they are only open from May-Columbus Day.

There is a place called Costello's located next to Abbot's at the end of Pearl St. in Noank which also has seafood at a fair price. It is informal and has some kind of upper deck as well as an inside area to eat in. It is not open all year but is open from late spring to mid fall. Also the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville CT has a very good buffet style restaurant with seafood selections at a very reasonable price. The Foxwoods casino in Ledyard CT also has a buffet restaurant probably with some seafood selections at low prices.
