Sad to report that my search for anything resembling genuine Mexican--or even good Tex/Mex food anywhere near Hartford has been unsuccessful. You will be amazed at the success of some truly bad restaurants. In fact, Hartford has only two restaurants of note: Caveys (Downstairs-French) in Manchester and Peppercorns (downtown Hartford, Italian-leans Tuscan) . Peppercorns is generally "in the weeds" on weekend nights and should be avoided, particularly on Sat nights. Ritchie Rosenthal's eateries (the Max group) "Max Amore", Max's Oyster Bar, etc are off shoots from the original "Max on Main", deservedly famous in the early 80's. The later iterations have become boutiques for those looking to be "seen", but not necessarily eating. ;-) They are numerous and difficult to avoid in the Hartford area, " the land of the blind, where the one-eyed man is King." If you find a good Mexican eatery, please pass the info along. Brown M. wrote:

Thanks for the news, Tom, even if it is bad. Crud. Have you tried Arugula's? I've heard good things, but haven't made it.
