There are usually two dozen cakes to choose from and all of >them look scrumptious! Demetre's amazing. They have close to thirty. The portions are huge and run about $5 a slice. They have every combination of fruit, chocolate cake and cream imaginable. Plus, they are fresh. Real fresh. When my wife was pregnant I was sent there almost every evening at 11 oclock (it's open till 1 or to, there are lineups to get in starting at 11) and one night I saw the manager grab a cake that was only 1/4 gone and heave it in the trash. "why so" i enquired. "it's no longer fresh. It's real cream and although it's refigerated, it starts to taste less than perfect after 6 hours. I was impressed. ---------- Cheaper, and smaller in portions, but still very very good is Pallas Bakery, on Danforth, south side of the street half a block west of pape. The best place to get birthday cakes. The chocolate grand marnier cake is somewhat of a tradition around here.
