The food is overpriced. Alice Fazoolis, or the Old Spaghetti might be the exception though. The food in Toronto is terrific but you have to really hunt around. The Danforth. Bloor, Queen and Spadina streets are the usual areas for good fare. These areas have mom and pop non franchise eateries. They deliver good meals because they must compete. The best Chinese restaurant for the price is one called the EON on Dundas at Chestnut just west of Bay. It isn't rated. They have bean curd soup to die for. Another restaurant is the Canary Restaurant on Front and Cherry. It is a popular movie locale but it too isn't rated. Movie celebs sneak in there even though it looks like a dive. But the lunch specials are special and lots of free street parking. The Mars on College at Bathurst is another highly popular but nonstar restaurant. The Patrician on King across from George Brown College makes screamingly good coffee. Real coffee, not the juggernaut of Starbuckian weird concoctions. They have really decent lunch specials too. I regularly go to a little Bistro 350 on Temperance at Bay has just been sold. They are a little pricey but the food is fair. The new management will likely keep the tradition of good meals going. The Victoria Cafe on Victoria Street at King is another oft missed eatery by the tourist trade but not by the local business workers. It is right across from the King Edward Hotel. These are a few of the good restaurants, unrated lying around in Toronto. Edo wrote: > I can not believe the poor quality of eateries that Toronto has. Get the mashed instead of fries, though. If I recall correctly, it's about $6.00 for a full plate at lunch. It's used frequently for filming; doesn't look like it has changed much at all since the '50's. If anyone's a hyper-realist painter looking for a great storefront to paint, it fits the retro mode :-D Not sure what time they close... might be before 6pm. I'll confirm tomorrow. Do a bang-up job on an artery-clogging breakfast of bacon and eggs and hash browns and toast, too, from what Ash says. ...pat.
