Sorry to break format, but just thinking about Montreal Restaurants has made me hungry enough to run out to eat. for Quebecois fare (especially the brunch) check out Les Filles du Roi in Old Montreal for an all-in-one artery bursting experience.

La Maree (in old Montreal - 404 Pl. Jacques-Cartier). Excellent continental French cuisine & seafood.

Chez La Mere Michel - 1209 Guy.

Bocca D'Oro - 1448 St-Mathieu. Classic Italian food.

Dunn's - 892 Ste-Catherine. BREAKFAST

One of the finest restaurants I've ever eaten at is Chez la MereMichel, 1209 rue Guy. Magnifique!

Les Halles (on Mountain, Crescent or Bishop, not sure) was always an excellent meal. Not sure if it's still around.

You lived in Montreal and never tried poutine??!?!?! It's the national greasy fast food of Quebec.

I don't know about "Smoked-Meat Pizzaghetti" - it sounds pretty good to me. Lots of places around Montreal serve smoked meat spaghetti, which is exactly what it sounds like: a big plate of spaghetti covered with a tomato-meat sauce with about a pound of chopped smoked meat plopped on top. It's heavenly.

I'd recommend Magnan. They serve excellent roast beef. You used to order the size you wanted by number. The biggest piece of beef was about the size of a person's head. Fabulous. I hope I got that spelling right.

Yeah it's still around, on Crescent I think. It gets my vote.

Try Basha's on Ste Catherine for a good fast inexpensive cafeteria style lunch (or dinner)... it's on the south side, on a corner, on a second floor, above a sports store... vicinity Peel. You might want a quick meal so as not to waste a MOMENT away from the great shops in that area!

Have fun.

Forget the Beaver Club. Forget L'Actuel. Forget Le Vent Vert. Go straight to Schwartz's.

Mtl Pool Room - The best. Second - Monsieur Hot Dog at Loyola Campus (Sherbrooke West)

St. Viatur Bagel Bakery in Outremont 24hrs /day .. must be the ovens ?? Water ??

>- smoked meat -- YES, FATTY

Good anywhere, but best at Schwarz' ...second choice, Ben's at 3:00 AM

>- greasy fries in paper bag with vinegar from LaFleur's in Ville St. Pierre

Great fries everywhere ..

>- tortieres

I'd even settle for a Bell Fermiere, but would rather sit down with a pitcher in just about any tavern ...or have a friend's mom bake one.

>- Harvey's burgers -- the best fast food there is

Probably the greasiest fast food burger on the continent. I prefer the one on St. Catherine by St Laurent with all the hookers in it.

>- annual Festival du Homard

Doesn't this last all year on Price Arthur ?? I've never been there when there WASN'T a festival d'homard .. can't beat two 1 lb lobsters for $9.95 Canadian though ..especially grabbing a chilled bottle of white bordeax from the local depanneur ..

>- Curly Q's (?) from the Steerman on Ste. Catherine (good drunken snack)

I remember everything being a good drunken snack <g> Thanks for the Brador Molson !!!!

Fellaffels and Shwarma from Basha's on St. Catherine The all-you-can-eat buffets at the strip joints. Laurier Barbeque chicken with that orange stuff they call Barbeque Sauce Cosmo's Coffee Bar cheeseburgers on Sherbrooke near DeCarie (market price) The Cowboy Burger at L'Habitant also on Sherbrooke near Decarie. The Teriaki steak en-brochette at Moishe's up St. Laurent

(I think most of these things are still there.) Time for a junk-food junket again, I guess. Je me souviens .. just like the license plates say <g> ..
