Two of the best meals I've ever eaten were at "The Gastronome" in Idylwild. IMHO, it's the best restaurant in town. The French onion soup is wonderful, the tournedoes of beef melt in your mouth, and their creme brulee is to die for! Everything on the menu I've tried has been fresh and tastey. The service has always been warm, friendly and efficient. The building is like a large log cabin, and the focal point of the dining room is a huge stone fireplace -- can be very romantic. We like this restaurant so much that Idylwild has become a favorite spot for short weekend getaways. Unfortunately, it's been about a year since we've been up there. But I remember a very good breakfast place on the main street, I think it's called "Annie's," or something like that. Beware of the pancakes -- they taste good, but they're HUGE! Also, "Granny's Pies" is a little pie shop you shouldn't miss. Some of the best pie outside my mom's kitchen can be found there! *************************** Jane Marshall [email removed]
