I recommend Evan's, in South Lake Tahoe. Nicely
prepared sort of fusion dishes. A lot of seafood. Good desserts. Casual, but pleasant service. Prices a little lower than I would expert to pay for a similar meal around here (I live in Palo Alto). I don't remember exactly --- maybe $7 for appetizers and $12-$15 for dinner.

I don't know the name of the street it is on. You take 50 until where you usually turn right at the traffic light to get into SLT and instead of turning right, you go straight. It's about 3/4 of a mile up on the left.

You should make reservations.

I've eaten an Nephele's several times and enjoyed it quite a bit. Be sure and try the cheese appetizer (I can't remember the name of it but it is very distinctive....). HOWEVER, the last time I went I thought the food was noticeably poorer than before. Hope it was just an off night...

En route, there's a pretty good Mexican restaurant in Dixon, a couple of miles of 80. Near the corner of 1st and A--I think it's called Chava's but I could be wrong.

Heidi's (south shore) is great for breakfast, too. Chart House (Kingsbury Grade Road) is a nice place for dinner, with a great view.

Not any more... it's closed down.

Do you mean "Chevy's"? If so, it's part of a
chain of "Fresh Mex" food. They're good, and
they have great chips... the salsa's not hot
enough, though. They toned it down because too
many folks were too wimpy about spicy salsa.
They also make their tortillas on site, and you
get to watch them go through the 'machine.'

The absolute best place to go eat on the way to Tahoe is at Chris' Cafe, in Myers just past the 50/89 split.

Chris' is only open 'til 2:30, but their breakfasts and their lunches are simply phenomenal. The place is cheap and almost always packed, but the food is magnificent, and it's a family business.

My best friend swears their Huevos Rancheros is the best he's ever had, but I've never tried it, because I'm stuck on their uncbelieveable omelettes and biscuits and gravy.

Can't miss it- it's on the westbound side of the road just west of the ag station.
