In rec.food.restaurants you write: >My wife and I plan on being in Southern California at the end of March and >would appreciate some recommendations on restaurants. We'll be staying in >the following cities: > Santa Barbara > Palm Springs > San Diego > Los Angeles >We'd like to know about mexican, japanese, italian and California cuisine >restaurants (please, no touristy or family ones). If they have a good wine >list I'd like to know that also. Mexican: Guadalajara Grill in Old Town (San Diego). Try the Cochinita Pibil (or one of the other dishes with achiote sauce). Many of the other traditional dishes are good (like the Mole' (not the underground critter--a sauce which includes (of all things) cocoa)). California: Mille Fleurs (nouvelle francaise) in Rancho Santa Fe. My fave restaurant in the area. Pricey but good with a great wine section. Brasserie (on Mira Mesa Blvd in Sorrento Mesa)--over the best wine store in San Diego, and everything downstairs is on the wine list. Mentioned in Travel & Leisure or Traveler last month. Highly recommended by many, but I still prefer Mille Fleurs. Italian: My fave is Issimo's which is Northern Italian/Southern French. For more traditional Italian, Salvatore's and Fios are recommended. >We plan on being in Palm Springs on my birthday so would like the name of >some really good places, especially with a good wine selection. Good luck! My best friend Rochelle used to teach out there and we had a heck of a time finding anything decent. There was one place which was` decent--I think it was called Cattails or something like that. It seems to be a popular pastime in Palm Springs to look for decent places to eat... >I'd appreciate any suggestions you could give.
