For a pre-concert meal in SF last week, I tried Terra Brazilis, at the corner of Hayes and Laguna (across the street from Suppenkuche). The menu is fairly short, but very interesting. They seem to go in for some unusual taste combinations: a flavorful turkey picadillo was surrounded by pickled beets (mild ones, but still a bit startling). And the excellent butternut (I think) squash soup was also enhanced by ingredients contrasting in flavor and texture. I had been there once soon after they opened (a year or so ago), and had a mixed reaction. But this time my reaction was quite positive, and I'm eager to try more of the menu. Service was impeccable, and the waiter quite willing to discourse on the food in response to questions.
San Francisco, CA
Something different: Terra Brazilis (SF)

I liked the space there, at least if you go downstairs out of the noise. And the server was very helpful. But as interesting as the menu was, the execution just wasn't at the same level. It's not that the food was bad. It was just boring. I hope they improve because I like the concept. I would be willing to give it another try some time.

Still, the food is tasty, the setting comfortable and stylish, and the staff is friendly without being overly personal.
