I really enjoyed my meal at Rocco's Seafood Grill last month. I had posted here looking for recommendations for places to eat near the Holiday Inn on Van Ness and several people mentioned Rocco's so I gave it a shot. I wrote something of a review of it which is currently available on dejanews with the topic "Re: Unreasonable request" in the ba.food archives. Or just search for posts by [email removed] in ba.food.

Seafood Restaurant recommendations?

I do usually order a seafood dish as my main course. Their bass in parchment is delicious, I liked the fish braised in garlic sauce over fun noodles, and they usually have a seafood special that's worth trying. If you're going there, I recommend the lamb satay appetizer highly, even if it isn't exactly seafood. When I go it's always "what do we get after we've had the lamb satay?", not, "what should we order?". Interestingly spiced, very meaty, with an unusual and delicious peanut sauce. Everything in the restaurant has very interesting and unique flavoring. I enjoy pretty much every dish, although I've learned to clean my plate between courses because these interesting flavors don't usually go well together. Service is interesting, at best. Well. Service sucks. But the food's good and the prices are reasonable and I will keep going back every month or two because I enjoy myself there so much.

Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant at 2588 Noriega in San Francisco. It's on the corner of 33rd Avenue (around there) and Noriega in the Sunset District. Great food, great prices, great service. I went there three times, never disappointed. I also have friends who live in the area and go there frequently.

Where've you heard the Cliff House maligned recently? Incidentally, I'll push the Cliff House Sunday brunch as one of the best around, and it has lots of seafood.

If you'd like something unusual -- Straits Cafe (locations in Palo Alto and SF) is a classy Singaporean-style restaurant that (besides items like 'Southern Indian Rack of Lamb' and 'Tandoori Beef Kabab') has some truly excellent seafood dishes. I've had the 'green curry seafood', which was a half lobster, some mussels, prawns, & calamari, in a curry with eggplant. It was messy & took a while to eat, but was excellent. Others with us had 'Chili Crab', Ikan Pangang (salmon with spices, grilled in a banana leaf), etc. They have a pretty wide menu. Highly recommended. Allan
