I had a great meal at Spices once.  I'd advise concentrating on Thai food; the sushi was good but not great.  Superb tom kha gai!

If you're staying in the Santa Cruz area and want good beef - The Hindquarter is good - there's a number of good restaurants but many depend on what type of food(s) you like and if you have a means of transportation
