A nice classic hotel restaurant. Nothing elaborate or fancy. Perfectly acceptable, but unremarkable, food, service, and prices. Atop the tablecloth was a piece of paper that, once again, was a nuisance for me. She called it "tacky". The wallpaper is quite charming being whimsical sketches of household furnishings. Partly because most of the tables were empty, partly because of the carpeting and other soft surfaces, there was very little noise. The lighting was just right, not too bright, not too dim. My reading of the menu was helped by the table candle. The union service personnel with whom we dealth were competent, more formal than friendly, and unobtrusive. That's the way I like them to be. Each had English as a non-native language. When I asked for a condiment that was absent and not expected to be on the table, before going to get it the waiter thoughtfully asked "Anything else?" I looked around and noticed the absence of sour cream for my baked potato. Plate removal was properly done. My dinner consisted of a Caesar [sic] salad that was a bit too vinegary, prime rib with Chinese string beans, baked potato, corn kernels, and kale. Each was just fine. The prime rib was OK. I ordered it because nothing else on the menu really piqued my interest and in spite of the fact that I just had some prime rib Sunday evening at the Camelback Inn's Navajo Buffet. My $24 prixe fixe meal was topped off with a pleasant crême broulet(sp) (also at the Camelback) selected from a tray with very few selections. She had the roasted chicken salad, a delightful looking dish, and a glass of excellent white Zinfandel. The salad had three different kinds of lettuce (absent Icberg), an excellent quantity of chicken, strips of bell pepper, jícama, tostada strips, tomatoes, red cabbage leaf, and some other stuff. Although a bit sweet, it was very nice and very well presented. Interestingly, it was served, I thought quite properly, when I was about half-finished with my salad. We both had excellent coffee. Had a fifteen percent discount coupon. Paid $51. Without the discount, I think I would have found it to be a bit pricey. With, however, it was just about right.
