just got back from a weekend in Sacramento CA and i'd like to recommend a great restaurant: Food For Thought, 2416 K ST.

its a small Euro-style cafe located off the beaten path in a quiet residential area. indoor and outdoor seating, excellent service and (at least for breakfast)a very creative menu. i had smoked chicken and cranberry hash made with yellow potatoes and served with poached eggs.

thanks to those of you who emailed me suggestions. (found Food For Thought while looking for the Tower Cafe). Hogshead makes a good pale ale and the staff there was wonderful. Espresso Metro is great for a relaxing Sunday morning in the downtown area. and the coffee wasn't bad, either, from this spoiled Seattle-ite's point of view.:-)

and to anyone driving the slab (I-5) north out of Sac, i stumbled on a super Basque restaurant in the tiny farming community of Maxwell, about 70 miles out. Delicious ox tails and lamb stew served with some of the tastiest rice ever. The Chateau Basque, opened weekends only.

bon appetite!
