My sister has lived there 5 years, and has discovered: Mara's Greek food, modest family-style place with plastic grape decorations, fantastic moussaka, excellent lamb and combination plate, calamari. On Lighthouse near Hoffman, closed Mondays. Gianni's Pizza Very popular, doesn't open til 4pm, does a roaring business. On Lighthouse near Prescott Fifi's French meals and pastries, some designed to be very low-fat despite their commitment to excellent flavors. On Highway 68 at Prescott. Forest Hill shopping center on 68 at Prescott Has not only Fifi's, but a choice of other great places; pizza, sit-down Italian, Mexican, all worth knowing about. Across the street is a good little BBQ place for serious pigging out, and also: Taste Reputedly excellent cuisine, though pricey. Haven't tried it. On Highway 68 at Prescott. Chong's chinese food Right downtown --sorry, don't know address. Very inexpensive and excellent, especially the special Won Ton soup. They do a roaring takeout business, deservedly. Sea Harvest Fresh fish market and restaurant. 598 Foam St. Why pay for phony Fisherman's Wharf ambience? Great fish and chips, clams, oysters, and full dinners too. El Cocodrilo Has interesting Latin American menu items, worth trying. Its location on Lighthouse in downtown Pacific Grove means the prices have to be a bit more. Check it out.

Check it out. Try the Fish Wife as well. It is owned by the same folks as El Cocodrilo. Take Hwy 1 South towards Carmel to Hwy 68 (17 mi drive exit). Just take Hwy 68 (not the 17 mi drive) to the right at the stop sign, weave around a few miles in the hills and drop down the hill. It is tucked in next to a motel all the way down through the town on the left. If you pass it you are driving next to the beach. Parking is a pain. The food is very good and reasonable. They have the same hot sauce as El Cocodrilo. Roland ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Roland F.
