With a budget that large, I'd go to Dal Baffo (on Santa Cruz Avenue in Menlo Park).

That's a pretty high figure, even including the wine; generally speaking, the highest you'd go is about $75/head.

Nevertheless, if that's what you want, here's the places most likely to get you what you want, roughly in order of food quality (based on both my impressions and others):

Chez TJ in Mountain View (French)
Dal Baffo in Menlo Park (Continental)
Chantilly II in downtown Palo Alto (mostly Italian) The Acorn in Atherton (Mediterranean)

Catherine,

For a really special dinner as you describe, try Maddalena's in downtown Palo Alto on Emerson St. Their private rooms are very elegant and their food is excellent!
