Ok, I've been in Redding about 1 day and I've already found a neat place called the Hatchcover, right on the Sacramento River. They've got plenty of seafood entrees ‹ steamer clams, fillet of mahi mahi, scallops saute, calamari, shrimp butterfly deep fried, scampi ala meuniere, seafood combination saute, fettucini with seafood, pesto seafood fettuccini, Alaskan king crab, and lobster. There's also plenty of beef, pasta, chicken and seafood combination plates, and the atmosphere is great -- definitely a good place to go for special occasions. The phone number is (530) 223-5606. The address is 202 Hemstead Drive. You exit Interstate 5 at Cypress, drive west on Cypress to Hemsted, turn right, and the Hatchcover is on the left.

Looking in the Yellow Pages (I'm new here, remember) I also find a place called Buz's Crab seafood market and restaurant, 2159 East St., (530) 243-2120. They specialize exclusively in seafood. http://www.snowcrest.net/buzscrab/index.html.

Also, there's Pio Loco, which claims it was voted Redding's No. 1 Mexican restaurant for the last four years running by the readers of After 5 magazine. They have crab enchiladas, fresh halibut and salmon, steamer clams, oyster shooters and more traditional Mexican entrees. Address is 1135 Pine St., between Trinity and Eureka Way; phone (530) 246-2111. They say they have "limo service available."

Nello's Place has steak and seafood -- scampi, lobster, and a seafood special, plus prime rib on Friday and Saturday. (530) 223-1636, 3055 Bechelli Lane.

I can give you more ideas if you would like them.

I can verify that Hatch Cover and Nello's Place are fine dining establishments.
