Folks,

My girlfriend and I simply love the new Cafe Jubilee, on Buchanan between Sutter and Bush, very close to Japan Center; 415.292.9027. The two guys who opened it about 4 months ago had owned Chloe's in Noe Valley, then moved to Thailand (one of them is Thai) to try their hands there. Older and a bit wiser, they returned to open Cafe Jubilee, and it is wonderful. *Very* reasonable prices for a delicious, somewhat eclectic menu of omelets, salads, sandwiches, pasta, and some great entrees, with Thai touches abounding. Soup specials are often wonderful, especially their black bean soup with cinnamon, which I've seen on the menu only once, unfortunately. Sandwiches come with shoestring sweet potatoes, which are addicting. Desserts are wonderful, when we've dared to ignore our diets. Mango iced tea and Thai iced tea are nice changes of pace, and the service is warm and friendly, attentive, and unobtrusive. I would have expected some new-restaurant missteps when we first started going last summer, but if there were any, they were effectively concealed. I almost hate to spread the word, since they have fewer than 10 tables and were already half full when we ate lunch there this weekend (as we do essentially every weekend, at least one meal). But it's too good to keep to ourselves, and we would love to see these guys succeed. Enjoy!

Regards,

Dan
