Try The Golden Truffle, its on the main road down to Newport Beach

A lot of selection down the highway in Laguna Beach (nice drive to a really nice place)

Let's see...my tastes tend towards eccentric and cheap...

In Costa Mesa, hit Taco Mesa for a lunch (but only early or late since the lot's jammed at noon). It's the best Mexican stand around by far.

Memphis on Bristol for trendy southern food.

For sushi try Kanpai on Baker -- not a lot of ambiance, but good sushi.

Gandhi in South Coast Village for Indian.

Las Brisas in Laguna Beach has good upscale Mexican food and a killer view. It's worth at least drinks and appetizers on the patio overlooking the ocean.

The Harp's a noisy Irish bar on Friday nights and the Goat Hill Tavern up the road from it ain't bad (if you don't mind Marines) -- it's got something like a 140 different taps (don't hold me to the number).

Go up to Little Saigon (the area, not a restaurant) in Westminister for Vietnamese. At that point follow your nose since I can't remember any names.

Jamillah Gardens on Walnut in Irvine does Islamic Chinese. Great sesame bread.

Black Sheep Bistro in Tustin has wonderful Provencal-styled food. Pricey but worth it.

Ocean Avenue Brewery in Laguna Beach is a favorite.

For sheer pig-out overdose, find a Claim Jumpers and get way too much to eat without even trying.

There's a Persian place on Bristol in Santa Ana (not Darya) whose name escapes me at this moment.

Hope this helps,

We moved out of Orange County (job transfer) in late 1987. Boy, do I miss Claim Jumper!!

Dave, is the Orange County Mining Co. still in business? They had good food and a great view, too.

For the absolute BEST barbequed ribs (pork and beef) that you will ever find anywhere, bar none, go to Tulsa Rib Company in Orange. I think the address is on Collins Street, but it's at the corner of Tustin and Collins. *That* is the place I miss more than anywhere else!

A bit south of Disneyland on Harbor Boulevard is Belisles, where you can get a ton of food, too, kinda like Claim Jumper.

It brought back good memories, but now I'm hungry!
