As for category 2 I would highly recommend La Serenata Gourmet on Pico Blvd in West LA. Not _too_ far from the airport, worth an even longer drive for expertly prepared seafood with exquisite sauces. The pork and beef dishes are top notch, try the Pork Medallions in Molcajete Sauce if you like it hot!

The untradtional appetizers are also worth exploring. Their quesadillas are like masa turnovers filled with goodies as compared to the usual griddled flour tortilla-like devices served everywhere else.

Let me know if you go...I'd be interested in your evaluation!

Border Grill. The owners have a TV show on cable, as well, Too Hot Tamales (or is it Two?).
