Cafe Macaroni is a small place on Columbus Ave near the Transamerica pyramid in SF. Despite its unlikely name and cramped quarters, it has great Italian food, served by a colorful staff. It's on the downtown edge of North Beach, so you can avoid parking hassles at night by parking in the financial district and walking over a few blocks. Sit downstairs if you can, where you get personal attention from the kitchen staff. LJ
