This is one of those restaurants that I see a crowd in, make a note to go back there, but somehow never do. Thanks for the positive review; maybe that will make the difference.

Bandera has gotten greasier in the last year or so--the fish in particular, which is *very* bad, the meats to a lesser degree. Over-large portions is part of the point--it's a "don't eat lunch today, big dinner tonight" sort of place. What, perchance, does "clientele that reminds me why I left Tennessee" mean?

After being the one to start praising the Bro's, I have say this: We took friends there last night, and it was a suboptimal experience. The service stank, although it was clearly a short-term problem: Our waitress's honey was seated at the table next to us, and she kept going over to sit with him and make goopy faces (we discovered that he was just back from a 3-month modeling job in Europe). Everyone else said their dishes were good, but I submitted the cooks to my risotto test, and they failed miserably. They didn't use arborio, it was the wrong consistency & texture, and they tried to make up for it by adding waywayway too much cream. Bzzzt.

So, by all means, try out I Fratboys, but don't get the risotto. And if you see a self-important model-boy sitting by himself, ask for another station.

Rage away,
