Not to start a pizza war or anything, but.. Took my better half and her sister to "Jake's Restaurant" in Saratoga on Wednesday night, and all three of us were in complete and utter awe of the amazing & delicious pizza there. I hadn't been in Jake's since I was a kid, but always remembered it as being a good place for pizza. There was a Round Table across the street back then (maybe still) that was also somehow passable -- I guess the competition between the two made them both better. Anyways, atmosphere is pretty typical for a pizza joint, lacquered wooden tables, big screen TVs, beer bar, sort of a sports theme, etc. We ordered a large Pepperoni & Mushroom with extra sauce (~$18), my favorite. Note that this is not a place to find limp-wristed "Thai Chicken Pesto & Arugula" pizza, and their pizza is neither "authentic chicago style" nor "authentic new york style". After the pizza we had I can safely say I prefer "authentic Jake's style" to any of the above! It's about 1/2" crust, great sauce with a hint of oregano, just the right amount of cheese, not at all oily, crust is crispy on the bottom & perfectly baked inside, and (some reason I like this) the pizza was cut into lots of slices instead of just a few wide ones. Totally delicious. Jake's is on Saratoga Sunnyvale Rd (aka De Anza Blvd / Mathilda Ave) near Prospect Ave in Saratoga. No deliveries as far as I remember, but there's take-out. Also I wouldn't quite call it a "find" -- their parking lot has been full of cars every night since I was a kid. Enjoy, Allan ps. if you go there, be sure to get extra sauce.
