If you define hashbrowns as shredded potatoes, crispy on the outside layers and tender inside, then you might want to try: Bobbi's (Saratoga Sunnyvale just south of 85 next to Yamagami's nursery) They also serve good corned beef hash and biscuits and gravy. Reasonable prices. They have a loyal clientele. Little Amsterdam (Big Basin Way, downtown Saratoga). Sara's Kitchen (Lincoln and Franklin in Santa Clara) I'm not sure if they have hashbrowns, but their breakfasts are very reasonably priced and good. They serve hearty lunches and early dinners too. All the above places are simple family-run coffee shops, nothing fancy. Grace

Good Breakfast in South Bay -- with hashbrowns -- where?
Not quite as fare south, but.. There is a great little dive in San Mateo. on El Camino Real, nearl Hillsdale, called The Pantry. Nothing fancy, but they have real hashbrowns (I ask for them "extra brown"), well-seasoned, and very tasty. No atmosphere, but a nice, older Philippino couple own it, and they also make *great* lumpia! (unrelated, but true!) Good luck!
Well I must tell ya that Breakfast is my FAVORITE meal to eat out with. Here are a few of my favorites-- All serve very large plates. I prefer homefries so I can not comment on their hashbrowns but I know that they serve them.. here goes Alex-- corner of Blossom and Snell in Payless shopping center.(closed sundays) Petes- on Snell near Blossom. Cup and Saucer- Meridian and Blossom- in Meryvns shopping Mall Cardinal- Hillsdale and Meridian. HUGE selection of breakfast food. Just Breakfasts. Montery rd. Tiny place. be prepared for a wait. But its worth the wait. Gee, now I am hungry.. Tim wrote: >Where is a good place to get breakfast in the South Bay area? I don't mean a >place like Denny's, Perkin's, IHOP or any other big chain. And every other day of the week, as well, I believe. There was an article in the Voice of Mountain View about the recent closing of the place.Someone wrote: >Just Breakfasts. Montery rd. There are (at least) two more Just Breakfast locations - Lawrence and Homestead(?) - same shopping center as Bullwinkle's Pizza, in a converted ?Dennys? Montery Hwy in Morgan Hill - mid-town, ~1 block from MH Police station Both are a *lot* bigger than the Monterey Rd location in SJ. Don't plan on lunch (maybe dinner!) after one of their breakfasts. This is where we take my bottomless-pit nephew when he visits - even *he* doesn't walk away hungry.
