I find Fleur de Lys a bit overrated and too stuffy (though quite good in many ways). La Folie also does a vegetarian prix fixe (last I checked), the food is excellent (to my mind more creative than Fleur de Lys), and the atmosphere is livelier, though not as elegant. Fleur de Lys
My girlfriend and I had a *very* disappointing experience at Fleur de Lys (our first and only time there, this past summer). I had the prix fixe menu and she ordered individual dishes. I was served the smallest filet mignon I've ever seen; no bigger around than a 50 cent piece. All the portions were tiny, the desserts looked fancy but tasted remarkably unremarkable. She had one glass of wine with dinner and a glass of port with dessert (I drank no alcohol), and the total bill came to $213. The waitstaff seemed pretty uncoordinated; we were asked the same questions by several different people and never did work out who had primary responsibility for attending to us, if anyone. We won't return, if we have to pay for the meal. Regards, Dan
The management and owner have not changed, nor has the food or the service. With respect to the service, experiences have been highly variable, with the last time we ate there being totally unacceptable. Basically we were ignored, and treated abruptly when we were attended to at all. I find the food quite good, but not as exceptional as many do. Much of it seems designed as much for appearance as for taste, with too many decorative dollops of this and that and an excessive reliance on luxury ingredients that don't necessarily make much sense. Portions are small, and those with large appetites are likely to be least satisfied. This can be one of the better restaurant experiences in the city, but it would be some ways down my list if I had to pick a place to have one last meal.
