Ferchrissakes, avoid that placed called "The Fish Market" in Palo Alto on El Camino. Tourists love the place, but it's awful; I tried it once: the poor tuna was cooked into rubber and served with an awful sauce from a frozen bottle. Yeck! They also sell fresh fish, but after watching the waitroid struggle for minutes at shucking oysters (he used so much force that if he slipped, he'd stab someone), you realize that they don't know much about fish.

I've been to the Fish Market's in Palo Alto and Santa Clara and have had good times, food and service. I usually get a catch of the day, if not Mahi Mahi or Rainbow Trout. They tend to get pretty crowded at certain hours. Thursday nights seem to be pretty popular. FYI, a new Fish Market will be opening soon in South San Jose on Blossom Hill Road a few blocks east of Almaden Expwy. before the Oakridge Mall. (This used to be Pedro's.)
Hi Christine- A couple of suggestions: For variety (and good, fresh quality) I go to Marina Market in Foster City. A lot of people go out to Half Moon Bay for fish, and there are a couple of good places. Generally, they offer little variety, but if you're after salmon steaks or the like, or crab, they can be great buys and very fresh. The best places are in Princeton Harbor, where you can sometimes buy direct from the fishermen if you meet the boats coming in. Alternatively, there's the Fresh Fish House down one of the back streets (but well indicated by signage as soon as you turn inot Princeton off Hwy 1).
