You should move to Sonomo county. Because John McDougall has his hospital program there, there are a whole mess of restaurants which have vegan, no added fat selections. Had a no-oil (really!) vegan 10 course or so Indian feast at the Santa Rosa Taj Mahal Restaurant. >I am. Tried Rooh's Cafe Salsa on Castro in MV? Also, both Wendy's and Carl's Jr will give you a plain baked potato with nuked broccoli if you ask. Jack in the box can give you their teriaki bowl without meat (white rice plus carrots and broccoli). Valley Fair's food court has a potato place. Homma's brown rice sushi has lots of vegan selections, and it's brown rice instead of white. For the absolute lowest sushi prices and greatest veggie selections, Miyaki's is fantastic (cupertino and palo alto). Used to be $1/order, now it's $1.20 per order. You can absolutely *stuff* your face with veggie sushi and still not pay more than you would at those all-you-can-eat sushi places that only offer cucumber maki for veg types (I hate cucumber maki). For super-dooper fancy, you can call ahead at Fleur de li (sp?) in SF and request a no-oil vegan/vegetarian meal. Their chef has created recipes for Dean Ornish. I used to run a bay area mailing list for folks interested in very low fat vegetarian food. We had potlucks and special restaurant outings. I'd scout out a restaurant willing to "really" do no oil cooking, pre-order the food and reserve a table or more (the biggest one had 20 or so attend). I burned out on it more than a year ago, though. But maybe it's worth another try.
