The BEST Caesar Salad in the East Bay is in Port Costa. I can't remember the name of the place, but there's only 2 restaurants in town & it's not the one at the end of the street which is rather large & funky looking. The one I'm referring to is on the left side as you come into town. Their Caesars are made right at your table with all fresh ingredients & are clearly some of the best around.
Let me know if you're unfamiliar with Port Costa & I'll give you more information.

East Bay: Looking for Good Ceasar
I had an excellent "classic" Caesar a few years ago at a place on Addison in Berkeley whose name escapes me now...oh yeah, Gertie's blah blah blah. Also a good crab soup. The Caesar was "classic" not in that it was prepared at table, but in that it consisted of whole, trimmed inner romaine leaves, which you pick up with your fingers, getting quite oily in the process, so be sure to ask for fingerbowl, hot damp towel or both. As I recall there were anchovies in the dressing as well as big pieces in the salad, so it might be tuff to get an anchovy-free version. Of course, then it wouldn't be an "authentic" Caesar. ;=> Will
