Try Karinya Thai restaurant on Garnet Ave. in Pacific Beach - still
the best thai I've ever had.

Cafe Sevilla is great fun for tapas and sangria, but if you want very
good Spanish try La Grande Tapa (both downtown)

Robertos/Albertos Carne Asada burritos are great if you can handle the
hot sauce and that "I just ate a brick feeling".

Lorna's for Italian - University City. Nothing, nothing, nothing
 compares....

Bill H.NetcomDec 29, 1995Subject: "OC Boardwalk" style (Ponzetti's/Tony's) Pizza in DC?
Whenever we go to the beach at Ocean City Maryland we never miss getting pizza from Ponzetti's or Tony's Pizza on the boardwalk. It is soooo good! Problem is we can't find ANY place near home (Bethesda area) that makes pizza this good with that unique taste. We keep trying new places but it seems hopeless!! We found one place in Columbia, MD called "The Big Cheese" that had it, but that is too far away. Can anyone help us out? Pleeeeaaze!

Sincerely,

Try The Sky Room at the La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla. We were there in March
and the food was incredible!! It is pricey but worth it.

I would also recommend the Whaler Bar at La Valencia. A bit less formal,
less expensive, but still very good.

Here are a couple of suggestions:

 "California Cuisine"/Seafood:

         George's at the Cove, 1250 Prospect, La Jolla. +1 619 454 4244.
Probably the best seafood in the county. I should point out that
the executive chef, Scott Meskan, is a good friend and neighbor.

Pacifica Del Mar, 1555 Camino Del Mar, Del Mar (in the Del Mar
         Plaza). +1 619 792 0476. Inventive California Cuisine. Nice
ocean view to boot (not to worry, the emphasis is on food, not
         view).

The Fish Market, 640 Via de la Valle, Solana Beach. +1 619 755 2277.
         There's also another one downtown on the harbor, +1 619 232 3474. I
prefer the one in Solana Beach. Less upscale than George's. Good
grilled fish, much of it fresh. No reservations.

 Italian:

         Fio's, 801 5th Avenue, San Diego (downtown). +1 619 234 3467.
Probably the best (northern) italian in town.

         Osteria Panevino, 722 5th Avenue, San Diego (downtown). +1 619 595 7959.
Less upscale than Fio's. Excellent grilled game. The smell dragged me
in there for a 3 hour lunch once :-)

 Asian:

Cafe Japengo, at the Aventine at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla (well,
more like University City, but it does have the right ZIP code).
         +1 619 450 3355. "Nouvelle Pacific Rim". It's been a while since
I have been here; it's an interesting place to people-watch on
a weekend night. If you're interested in food, go mid week.

 Cheers
