My husband and I ate dinner at Chez Sophie's on California Ave. on Saturday night and thought it was delightful. The restaurant is cozy and rather small which we both liked, and the food was quite good. It is a French Bistro-type restaurant, and Sophie chalks the menu on a plate which she brings around to your table. (BTW, Sophie and her two children are all very nice -- in fact all the staff was cordial). I ate the Chilean Sea Bass, and my husband tried the rabbit. Both dishes were good -- not fabulous, mind you -- but nicely done. I think they could work on the presentation a bit; all plates seemed to have been passed under an enthusiastic parsley mill, but that is a minor point. We also tried the pate as an appetizer and a chocolate dessert -- all good. The portions are plentiful and prices range between . . . oh, I don't know . . . maybe $12 - $20 (which I think is not cheap but pretty reasonable). We wound up paying $82 (before we added the tip) but we did drink a nice bottle of French wine which wasn't, perhaps, strictly essential :> (On second thought, it was.) Rservations are definitely required on a Saturday -- the place was jammed and folks were turned away. All in all -- two thumbs up. Best, Kate
