"let's go to guaymas!"] and the "menu relvolution" where they cut a lot of our favorite items, we hardly go there any more. (speaking of birthdays ... ever since my friends thought it would be oh-so-clever to tell the staff it was my birthday when it was not, i started to wonder how many people just wanted their free flan ... we'll at least i got a sombrero to put on my moon globe, turning it into "Senor Moon", out of it). By the way, some time ago, I read a bunch of recommendation on this group for "Sa Wooei" Thai Restaurant around the El Cerrito-Richmond border area [on San Pablo]. It was indeed much more to my liking than Plearn, Cha-am or any other Thai place I have been to. I was there with 4 other people and ordered a good number of dishes and I liked everything. [and everyone in my group was pretty satisfied as well] The prices are certaily not higher than the two berkeley places I mentioned and the service was friendlier [dinner was $80 for 5 people, including tax and tip, and i certainly was stuffed enough to walk out of there patting my stomach and going "blurp! blurp!"]. Cha-am comes off as a fancier restaurant, but I dont really like their style of cooking. I think the "front desk management" at Plearn has been obnoxious before [the reservations people more than the table staff]. Anyway, I think it was more than worth the drive. "I'll be back". --psb
