Not only do they have very good burritos and salsa, they must be the first people to try to sell fish tacos on the East Coast. While not as good as Rubio's fish tacos (which we got hooked on when visiting San Diego recently), Baja Fresh's were certainly good enough for Fairfax, where I'm sure not many people have been lucky enough to have eaten at a Rubio's. Tried Baja Fresh. Tried La Bamba. This gal likes her carne asada burrito from La Tacqueria on 25th & Mission in SF. Also the car wash burrito in SF. Beats anything from Southern California or the Mid-west (worked here for a year & half). LAJazzBaby

Felt the same way, but since we are now talking about legitimate "Burrito country" instead of "mid-west wraps"...let's get serious and mention Tacqueria Pancho Villa on 16th between Valencia and Mission! (Are we talking about the burrito stand at the carwash on Old Bayshore just before the Army onramp? Their burritos are recognizable...and if your are coming into town and can't wait, they are a fast "on and off" the freeway!) Pilgrim...for whom burritos are both comfort food and the ultimate "taste of home".
Personally, I've always though burritos from San Francisco's Mission District were gross, greasy, bland, and overrate, and I've tried Pancho Villa too. Since burritos are Mexican, and SF's hispanic population is mostly Central American, I wouldn't expect too much authenticity. I've had better burritos almost anywhere else in CA, from the East Bay to the Central Valley to SoCal. I think San Franciscans are very insular and don't get out of their town much (can't blame them), but this does lead some city-dwellers to believe they have the best everything. Tom
