I will admit to having once had some stuckup kid with an Italian accent, but that's once out of several visits. One of the best waiters I've ever encountered served us dinner at Il Fornaio. In the best of the professional waitering tradition, he seemed to never be around unless you raised your head to lookfor him, in which case he was already at your table side. I'll never understand how he managed to do this when we were one of many tables he was serving on a busy Saturday night, and all without rushing about and instilling that too busy feeling in the diners. It was literally, decide to order dessert, lookup, and he just happened to be by our table; linger over dessert and coffee, raise one's head, and there he was to receive the request for our check. I can't give him all the credit, as the bus boys did the water and bread and clearing of dishes, but I can't think of another meal that went so smoothly and yet left us in our privacy. If you're ever there for dinner, look for the portly, forty something gentleman whose remaining hair on the sides is white. (Pardon my somewhat blunt description, as I'm merely trying to accurately describe him.) George

Brunch in Palo Alto?

The other night, the girl who worked the hostess desk at the front looked like a hooker. She stood there, tall but slightly hunched over, arms hanging, and staring at people as they came in. They stared back, not really knowing what she was :) The waiters rush about, ignoring everyone. But the food is good!
